Thank You Event 2020: Kate Granger Patient Care - Winner

Every year we celebrate our amazing staff and their achievements at our pop-up ceremony. This year to keep everyone as safe as possible the event will be held virtually - Board members will pop into video meetings to surprise colleagues and present them with a trophy to celebrate as they are shining examples of our magnificent staff behaviours.

We will be posting all the winners as we reveal them so keep a look out on our website and social media channels. 

Kate Granger Patient Care Award - Winner

Matthew Devlin is an outstanding Nurse who goes above and beyond for the patients in his care. He demonstrates the Trust’s vision, values and behaviours each day and is well liked and respected by colleagues, patients and their families. Matthew’s dedication, care and commitment to the patients he is visiting ensures that their individual needs are met with dignity and kindness.

Helen Rowney, Operational Lead who nominated Matthew said: 

“Matt has recently been visiting a palliative care patient for end of life care and had built up a trusting and caring professional relationship with the patient and his son. During a twilight shift, Matt had visited the patient as planned but when he had finished his visits and towards the end of his shift, he rang the patient’s son to check how the patient and his son were. It was during this call that he identified the son was very anxious and the patient was actively dying. Matt returned to the patient’s home and was able to provide emotional support for the son and care for the patient. The patient passed away shortly afterwards with his son and Matt present and Matt was able to verify the patient’s death as well as provide ongoing support for his son. Matt stayed beyond his shift finishing time to ensure the physical and emotional needs of the patient and son were met.”

“Matt has a natural ability to see things from a patients and their families’ point of view, he quietly goes above and beyond for his patients without seeking thanks and appreciation from colleagues and the leadership team.”

Chief Executive Thea Stein popped into Matthew’s team meeting to tell him the good news. Speaking after his surprise, Matthew said: “I’ve worked in nursing for around a year now and I couldn’t imagine doing anything else, thank you.”
